AMANDA MESSER LESTER, age 99, of Dewitt, was born on April 22, 1901 to the late Isaac Messer and Nancy Hubbard Messer. Mrs. Lester died at her residence, Monday April 9, 2001. She was the oldest member of the Dewitt Baptist Church.

On January 22, 1920 she united in marriage with James M. "Jimmy" Lester who preceded her in death on January 6, 1975. A daughter, Sarah Saunders; a son, Noah Lester; her sister, Sarah Barnes Gibson; two brothers, Jim Tom Messer and Allen Messer also preceded her in death. Mrs. Lester is survived by her daughter, Loretta Bright and husband Delmer of Dewitt; her son, John Ike Lester of Dewitt; 15 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 18 great great
grandchildren; her daughter-in-law; and one son-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Mrs. Amanda Messer Lester were held at the Hopper Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. where the Rev. W. B. Bingham and the Rev. Earl Hammons officiated. Mrs. Lester was laid to rest in the Isaac Messer Family Cemetery at Dewitt.
Hopper Funeral was in charge of the arrangements.
