British Member of Parliament. He was born in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, and was educated in France and Italy. During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Artillery, reached the rank of Captain and was mentioned in dispatches. In 1945, he was elected to represent the Platting division of Manchester; five years later, he moved his constituency to Thurrock in Essex, which he represented until his death. He was cremated, and the stone which marks his ashes can be found on the first turning to the left (South), just opposite the lavatories and the Belgian War Memorial, ten markers down on the right hand side. The inscription, which is not easy to read, is: "Hugh Delargy, 1908-1976, Member of Parliament 1945-1976, Knight Commander Grand Cross Polonia Restituta." This was awarded by the Polish Government in exile, which moved to London during the Second World War and remained there until the fall of Communism.
