Joseph's death certificate may be seen at Michiganology.org under the name of Joseph Lampsell. It shows that he was born in Centerville, PA and was the father of seven children all of whom were alive at the time of his death. It also shows that his father was George Sampsell. However, it lists his wife, Hester, as his mother. This information is incorrect which makes the other information suspect. Joseph's mother was Catharine Catherman. The reporter on the death certificate is the undertaker.

Both George and Catharine Sampsell (Sampsel) were born in Union County, PA and died in Snyder County, PA. (Half of Union Country became Snyder County in 1855.) They were the parents of eleven children. Three of the sons left Pennsylvania and came to Michigan - William, Joseph and Jacob.
