Monsignor Joseph Tash was the founding pastor & only pastor in the history of the 32 year old Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church at 4100 South Coulter Street in Amarillo. He was a native of Barre, Vermont in New England but had spent half a century in Amarillo. After his graduation from Spaulding High School, Tash attended St. Michael's College in Burlington for 2 years & St. John's Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts where he received a degree in philosophy. He also attended Sts. Cyril & Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan where he did postgraduate work in theology. He was ordained as a priest on May 25, 1962 at St. Monica's Church in Barre, Vermont. He also served as assistant pastor at St. Mary's Church (now St. Mary's Cathedral) in Amarillo from June 1962 to July 1967. He served as a priest & hospital chaplain & was on numerous civic boards.
