Mr. Dear was a native of Norfolk and was retired from the civil service department of Norfolk Naval Base. He was a member of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Norfolk.
Survivors include two nieces, Anne D. Poff and Martha Lee Dear, both of Christianburg, Va.
A funeral service will be conducted at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday in the Seldon Chapel of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church by the Rev. James H.W. Sell and Irwin M. Lewis, Jr. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church Altar Guild. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
