[source]--Sheboygan Press-Telegram, Thursday June 28, 1923, front page: ALBERT FREYBERG SR. EARLY LUMBER DEALER OF SHEBOYGAN DIES IN HIS FIRST ILLNESS

Albert Freyberg, Sr, aged 75, a pioneer of Sheboygan industry, died at 1 o'clock this morning after four days illness at his home at 506 Pennsylvania avenue. Mr. Freybeg, who was president of the Freyberg Lumber company for the past fifteen years, and who was also serving as vice-president of the Sheboygan Novelty company, became ill Sunday night. It was the first serious illness during this life, and it resulted in his death. Mr. Freyberg has been connected with the lumber interests of Sheboygan for about forty years, and has always been active in business up to the time of his illness. During his life he attained an unassailable reputation for integrity. He was a self-made man who owed his success to energy, determination, and sagacity.

Albert Freyberg, Sr. was born in Germany, August 28, 1848, and as a boy came to this country in 1851 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Freyberg. The family settled first in Milwaukee, but after a year came to Sheboygan. The father was a blacksmith and followed his trade for five years in this city, at the end of which time he moved to Howards Grove where he opened a smithy. After about seven years at Howards Grove, the family moved to Manitowoc where the father purchased a saw mill. Albert and the other two sons, Charles and Herman, were then old enough to become actively engaged in the business, and they aided their father in running the saw mill for several years, after which they returned to Sheboygan and built the City Stone flour mill, a mill which is still standing. For a number of years they continued in the flour mill business, and then established the Freyberg Lumber yard, at the same time, conducting a store and flour mill. The mill was discontinued upon the death of the father, and the three sons continued with the lumber yard, and remained partners until the death of the eldest brother, Charles, in 1908. Since that time Albert and Herman have continued as partners in the business which is now known as the C.B. Freyberg Lumber company, of which Albert was president. Previous to the death of Charles, the Sheboygan Novelty company was started, and Albert Freyberg, Sr. has served as vice president of the company.

Mr. Freyberg was married in Sheboygan, on July 27, 1874, to Miss Friedericke Groh. Five children were born to them, four daughters and one son. Deceased is survived by one son, Albert Freyberg, Jr., and three daughters: Mrs. George Lacknier, New Orleans, and Mrs. John L. Lunkul and Mrs. W. Bauer, of Sheboygan. He is also survived by three grandchildren. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon from the home. The pall bearers will consist of employees of the C. B. Freyberg Lumber company and the Sheboygan Novelty company.
