In 1901, he joined the faculty of Stetson College of Law as Assistant Professor of Law.

In 1902, Landis Graham French Law Firm in Volusia County, Florida was started by partners Cary D. Landis and Bert Fish.

In 1911, he was elected State Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit.

In 1931, The newly elected governor, Doyle Carlton appoints Cary D. Landis as Florida's Attorney General. An office he holds until his death in 1938.

He married Margaret Weaver and together they had two sons and one daughter: Erskine, Guinevere, and William.
