Jacob H. Baker Sr., 64, of 123 E. Louther St., Carlisle, died Wednesday in Carlisle Hospital.

He was born Aug. 6, 1925, in New Market, Va., a son of the late Jacob B. and Grace O. Baker. He was the widower of Virginia Adams Baker, who died Dec. 20, 1987. He was a retired independent truck driver. He was a member of the Cumberland-Goodwill Fire Company and VFW Post 477, both of Carlisle. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received the purple heart.

He was predeceased by a son, William E., who died Jan. 22, 1982.

Surviving are three sons, Jacob H. Jr. of Carlisle, Paul W. of Boiling Springs and Laverne L. of Pharr, Texas; one daughter, Emma L. Yocum of Carlisle; one sister, Edythe B. Patsy of Carlisle; one brother, Austin F. of Bryan, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Westminster Cemetery, North Middleton Township.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
