The son of Benjamin & Catharine (Fuller) Zarker or Zorger (the latter how the family appears in the 1850 census), he married Amelia Kamerer or Kemmerer February 26, 1852 and fathered William Henry or Harvey (b. 06/04/60) and Charles Benjamin (b. 04/09/63). In 1860, he was was a farmer presumably living in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, although he is found neither in that census nor in the 1863-65 draft registration for Dauphin County.


A Civil War veteran, he enlisted at the stated age of thirty-three in Harrisburg August 18, 1864, mustered into federal service there August 22 as a private with Co. B, 201st Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 23, 1865.


He moved to Kansas ca. 1878 and settled on a farm five miles from Topeka, Shawnee County. On November 6, 1889, he applied for a disability pension and received it and remained in the Topeka area until he died at his home there.


On June 9, 1912, Amelia applied for a widow's pension and received it.
