George Payette.
George Payette, father of Joseph Payette of Princeton, died at the home of his son, Ferman, on December 26. The remains were brought to Princeton for burial last Friday and services were held at St. Edward's church on Saturday morning by Rev. Mayer.

George Payette was born in County Barterie, Canada, 84 years ago, where he made his home for 45 years. He then moved to Somerset, Wis., and located on an 80-acre tract of wild land, which he opened up and lived thereon for 12 years. Twenty-sevenyears ago he came to Minnesota and bought a farm of 100 acres northwest of Long Siding, where he resided 15 years. Upon the death of his oldest son, Louis, 12 years ago, he decided to give up farming and moved to Minneapolis, where he made his home with his youngest son, Ferman, until called by death.

The relatives in attendance at the funeral were E. J. Payette, White Bear; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Blair, Stillwater; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. L. Payette, Princeton; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Sicard, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Neville, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Ferman Payette, Minneapolis. He also leaves a son, Arthur, residing in Seattle, Wash.

Mr. Payette was one of the good, old-style gentleman who was respected by all who knew him. He was honest, kind and a good neighbor.

Princeton Union January 9. 1919

His age at time of death is questionable based on earlier census records. George's parish/birth place has been established to be St. Genevieve de Bertier, Berthierville, Quebec, Canada. The family also spent several years in Connecticut where George and his two oldest children worked in the woolen mill. Perhaps this is where they were able to accumulate the funds needed to buy farmland in Wisconsin/Minnesota.
