Michael DeGroot - A Washington Terrace man died over the weekend in a boating accident at the northeast side of Pineview Reservoir. Michael DeGroot, 21, was water skiing about 7 p.m. Saturday with four friends when the boat that was pulling him accidentally ran over him, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Wells.Apparently, DeGroot was in the water waiting for the boat to pick him up when the boat went over him, Wells said. The name of the boat's driver was withheld.
DeGroot was pulled out of the water alive, though bleeding from the head and with severe internal injuries. He was treated at the scene by sheriff's deputies, paramedics and Utah Highway Patrol troopers. Paramedics rushed DeGroot to St. Benedicts Hospital in Ogden, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
