Born Joseph Arczyszewski, son of Joseph and Veronica "Vronie" (nee Cywinski) Arczyszewski a.k.a. Arczyk. Joe (who would have been a Jr., had he not changed his surname) was baptized in Holy Rosary R.C. Church, Baltimore, on January 19.

His original surname was Arczyszewski, though its shortened version, Arczyk, was commonly extensively used throughout the family. Joe Americanized Arczyk to Archer, and officially adopted it, by early adulthood.

He was the husband of Mildred Lee Hester Archer (1907-1990), with whom he shares a grave marker.

He was the father of June Mildred Archer Miller.

Joe resided in Dayton, Ohio throughout many of his adult years, but in California during his latter years.
