Actor. Known as Hollywood's oldest working actor, he came to films in his late thirties, after extensive work on Broadway. He appeared in over 200 films, often playing a cowardly, shady or treacherous character. He is probably well remembered in "Bedlam" (1946), as 'Sidney Long', the scientist confined to a mental asylum for proposing the invention of motion pictures. In the 1970s he appeared on such sitcoms as "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Rhoda."
