Graveside funeral services for Jo Anne Abernathy of Greenwood, formerly of Jackson and Winona, will be at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Rev. Rusty Keen will officiate the services.

Visitation will be on Thursday, from noon until 2:00 p.m., at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Miss Abernathy died of complications from a stroke at Indywood Glen Personal Care Home in Greenwood on Monday, June 4. She was 76 years old.

Miss Abernathy was the daughter of the late Rev. E. C. and Gladys Sorey Abernathy. She was a retired educator, having taught in the Jackson Public Schools for 39 years. She was awarded the "Teacher of the Year" for the Jackson Municipal Separate School District in 1985. She was a member for many years, and president for three years, of the Tau Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Society. Miss Abernathy was a co-founder of the Mississippi Professional Educators. She was a member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church in Winona.

She is survived by her brother, Bobby Abernathy and his wife, Linda, of Winona; one nephew, Chris Abernathy and his wife, Emily, of Norman, Oklahoma; and one great-nephew, Ben Abernathy.
