Texas Coaster, April 25, 1940:

Lightning claimed a victim near Richmond Wednesday morning about 9:00 o'clock when Juaquin Garza, Mexican farmer of Booth, was fatally burned while plowing his corn. Garza, 22, was a tenant on the Tom Booth Place and lived at Booth. When struck by the bolt of lightning, he was plowing in a field just behind the Crabb store. Garza was struck on the head and fatally burned to the waist.

The mule which Garza was driving, using a single sweepstock, was killed at the same time.
