Hiram Brewster, one of the early pioneers of Walworth, was a native of New Hampshire, born near Dover on Dec. 21, 1806; learned the trade of a machinist, and in 1841, was married to Miss Achsha Mansur, a native of Vermont, born in 1812. He then came to Wisconsin, lived in East Troy two years, when he settled on Section 22, Troy, where he followed farming during the remainder of his life. At his death, which occurred Jan. 18, 1861, he owned 300 acres of land, which he left to his wife, who has since carried on the same. She now owns 437 acres, 280 of which is worth $40 per acre and the balance valued at $20 per acre. The children are J. M. and George, both of whom are now helping take care of the estate (History of Walworth County, 1882).

Listed in 1850 Census, Walworth County, Troy, WI, (indexed as Bruster) age 44, farmer, with wife, Achsah, 38, and children Josephine, 5, John M, 3, and George, 1. Hiram born in New Hampshire, Aschsah born in VT, children born in WI. Hiram Jr, age 8, not listed.

Listed in 1860 Census, Walworth County, Troy, WI, age 53, farmer, with wife, Axia, 48, and sons, John, 13, and George, 11.

Hiram drafted his last will and testament on January 10, 1861, eight days before his death. He directed his debts to be paid, and then any remaining balance given to his wife Achsah, with the exception of directed comfortable support for his sister Adaline Brewster. He named his Troy friends Charles W. Smith and Samuel Fowler as executors. The estate was appraised at $6634.10, which included 300 acres valued $4500, eight ($100) shares of State Bank of Wisconsin at Milwaukee valued $800, 850 bushels of wheat valued $511, 150 bushels of corn valued $37.50, 50 bushels of oats valued $10, numerous livestock, and some farming equipment.
