Frances Fox Farris died peacefully on May 27th, 2012 in Sikeston. She was 91. Born December 27, 1920 in Charleston to the late Hascal and Hontas Fox, Frances was one of eight children. After graduation from Diehlstadt High School, she was employed by the Mississippi County Agricultural office in Charleston. On February 4, 1942, she married Murrie Linn Farris of Sikeston. She and her husband owned and operated Fair Grocery on Prosperity Street in Sikeston for many years. Frances then worked at the Scott-New Madrid County Electric Cooperative in Sikeston, retiring in 1984 after eighteen years of employment. Early on in her retirement, Frances volunteered at Missouri Delta Community Hospital, a service she enjoyed providing for nearly twenty years. She was a seventy-year member of First Baptist Church in Sikeston, and loved her church family. She also enjoyed entertaining her friends and playing cards, traveling to visit her children, and cross-stitching many baby blankets over the years. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Murrie Farris, in 1980. Also preceding her in death were one sister, Mildred Dalton, and four brothers—Hascal Fox Jr., John Fox, Jeff Fox, and Russell Fox. She is survived by all of her children and spouses; daughter Lyn (and Ed) Walton of St. Charles, MO; sons Louis (and Barbara) Farris of Yukon OK, Bruce (and Cynthia) Farris of Henderson KY, and John (and Mary) Farris of Springfield, MO; a sister, Martha Evans of Jefferson City, MO; and a brother, Ralph Fox of Oklahoma City OK also survive. Frances was very proud of her five grandchildren: Jeff Farris of Sante Fe, TX, Jennifer (and Brad) Jones of League City, TX, Andy Farris and Kathryn Linn (and Josh) Kirkwood of Henderson, KY, and Josh (and Megan) Farris of Memphis, TN. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Hunter and Austin Farris of Sante Fe, TX and Elle and Grey Jones of League City, TX. Frances's children would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Missouri Delta Community Hospital and Sikeston Convalescent Center for their support during the last few weeks.
