About 1799 in Venango Co., PA Mary Dixon/Dickson, a local women, married the imgrate farmer and pioneer Robert Atwell.

At some time during her short life her maiden name was changed from Dixon to Dickson. Mary died on 5 Dec 1800 during the birth of her first child, Dickson Atwell.

In 1801 Robert relocated and carried the baby Dickson Atwell from Lisbon, Venango Co., PA (near Clintonville) by horseback when he was one year old.

Robert then restarted his occupation as a farmer and owner of 190 acres in Scrubgrass Township, Venango Co., PA by virtue of settlement and improvement.

He married his second wife Margaret Russell (parents born in Ireland) about 1803 and they had seven children between 1804 and 1818; that they named, in the order of their births: Eleanor, William, George, John, James, Robert and Mary.

My ancestors, The Critchlow family of PA, were decended from Mary, his first wife's single offspring.

The Critchlow(s) often referred to the children born to Margaret "Peggy" (Russell) Atwell as the "Other Atwell's". These Atwell's were also farmers until they struck oil and became quite well to do.
