Obituary, The Columbia Daily Tribune, April 24, 2003:

Mary "Alene" Niles, 81, of Columbia died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with the Rev. Dennis Swearngin officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Niles was born May 5, 1921, in Woodlandville, to Charles Edward and Edith Mae Mead Forbis.

She married Dorsey H. Niles on Jan. 15, 1941, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Hickman High School in 1940. She was a clerical secretary at Midstate Distributing Co. for more than 40 years. She was then a records clerk with the Boone County Sheriff's Department for 14 years, where she was an honorary deputy sheriff.

She was a member of Woodlandville Church and also attended Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Niles of Columbia; a daughter, Deanna Niles Duemmel of Columbia; a brother, Wayne Forbis of Moberly; a sister, Rosalie Maurer of Columbia; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie Paul Forbis and Nathan Forbis; a sister, Vivian Kite; and a granddaughter, Karen Louise Albright.

Memorials are suggested to the Boone County Council on Aging, 800 N. Providence Road, Columbia, Mo., 65201, or to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, Mo., 63131.
