Funeral Services for Arthur F. Gilliland, a resident of Corvallis for the past eight years who passed away Monday afternoon following a heart attack, will be held in the chapel of the McHenry Funeral home Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Helseth officiating. Private final rites will be conducted at the Riverview Abbey in Portland with mausoleum entombment following.
The son of John B. and Frances Maynor Gilliland, he was born December 27, 1894, at Gallant, Ala., where he lived until the age of five he moved with his parents to Zephyr, Tex., where he was reared and received his education. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 22, 1918 and served as a private first class with the 82nd Division in France, being discharged from Camp Bowie, Tex., on June 6, 1919. Following his discharge he was married to Eva Hardiman on August 7, 1921 at Abernathy, Tex., where the couple made their home until 1942 when they came to Oregon and settled at Coos Bay. In 1948 they came to Corvallis where they have since resided. Mr. Gilliland had been enployed as a carpenter until his retirement due to ill health about a year ago.
Besides his widow he is survived by one son, John B., of Coos Bay; three daughters, Mrs. William H. Young of Lubbock, Tex., Mrs Fred Zeigler of Dora, Mrs. James Ragan of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother Mrs. Frances Murray of Birmingham, Ala., ; three brothers, Grover and Elver, both of Birmingham, Oliver of New Orleans, and 10 grandchildren.
