Edna grew up on the Hanneman/Arke farm in LeRoy township, Lake county. She attended Crow rural school and high school in Madison. She married Harley Leighton on January 6, 1934 in Brookings, SD. They lived in Washington state for several years before returning to Madison. Over the years Edna worked as a cook at the State Cafe, Bob's Cafe, and Uncle Ed's Cafe. She retired at the age of 70 and in 1988 she moved to Bethel Lutheran Nursing home.
Edna and Harley had three sons, Russell and two still living, and three daughters, Nyla Leighton Cavagielli, and two still living.
Funeral services were held at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Madison.
