Staub. On Monday, December 2, 1895, after a painful illness, Amandus Staub, in the 42d year of his age, beloved husband of Lillie Staub. Sleep, our beloved, and take thy rest, Lay down thy head upon thy Savior's breat, We love thee well, but Jesus loves thee best, Good night, good night, good night. By His Wife. Thy hands are clasped upon thy breast, We have kissed thy loving brow, And in our aching hearts we know We have no father now. By His Children Funeral from his late residence, near Congress Heights, tomorrow (Wednesday) evening, December 4, at 1 o'clock. Service at the Independent Methodist Church, 2 o'clock, 11th street between G and I streets southeast.

The first USS Colorado — a 3,400 long tons (3,500 t)-class, three-masted steam screw frigate — was launched on 19 June 1856 by the Norfolk Navy Yard. It was sponsored by Ms. N. S. Dornin, and commissioned on 13 March 1858, Captain W. H. Gardner in command.
