"William Henry Houtz Jr., 65, of Pine Grove, passed away Monday in Pine Grove Township. Born In Pottsville, Dec. 4, 1946, he was a son of Edith Smith Houtz, Schuylkill Haven, and the late William H. Houtz Sr.
Bill was a 1964 scholar athlete graduate of Schuylkill Haven High School. In 1968, he received a bachelor of science degree in education from Penn State, received his master of science degree in education from Kutztown College and was a biology/advanced biology teacher at Pottsville Area High School for 35 years. He was a member of the NRA and was an avid hunter. He was a lepadoptorist who reared moths and butterflies and sold them worldwide. Bill was a speaker and member of the Gideons. He was a member of Reedsville Bethesda E.C. Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher and was a former ministry council president, former class leader, former official board vice president and former Sunday school superintendent. He was a past president of the Pine Grove Basketball Boosters, a former child evangelism director and former church League bowler.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife of 40 years, LaVerne Lengel Houtz; a daughter, Kimberly, wife of Keith Schultz, New Tripoli; two granddaughters, Sarah Schultz and Emilee Schultz; two sisters, Sharon Fryer and Beverly Houtz, Schuylkill Haven; two brothers, Gregory Houtz, Schuylkill Haven, and Marvin Houtz, Shenandoah. "
