Rachel was the daughter of Henry and Sarah Drum Spangler. She was born at Clear Creek Twp. in Fairfield County, Ohio Jan. 24, 1832. There she married Lewis Long June 20, 1852. They moved to the Kansas Territory in 1857, as did her parents. She died from pneumonia Mar. 13, 1880 and was buried in the Spangler Cemetery. Her father owned the land where the cemetery was located and when he later sold it to the school district, the name was changed to Ninety Six Cemetery (the same as the school district). Her children were Martha Caroline "Matt" McCarty, Mary Ann "Mollie" Stainbrook, a child that died young, William H. "Bill" Long, Sarah Ellen "Ell" Davis Cook, Naomi G. Long (died young), Charles Edward Long, Frank A. Long and George W. Long.
