IRISH MULBERRY SIBLINGS:

1. JANE MULBERRY Circa 1847 (Married William Johnston-Remained in U.K.)
2. JOHN MULBERRY Circa 1852(Dates unknown-Remained in U.K.)
3. THOMAS BARNETT MULBERRY (1858-1884)
4. ISABELLA MULBERRY 1860-1928 (Married Rev. James B. Cody)
5. MARY MULBERRY (Circa 1861 - 1920)
6. JAMES THOMSON MULBERRY (1863-1938)
7. CHRISTIANA MULBERRY 1865-1895 (Married Robert Johnston
8. DAVID MULBERRY (1869-1958)
9. ANNIE 'ELIZABETH' MULBERRY (1871-1960) (Married Peter McIntosh)

Her mother, Thomasina Elizabeth Barnett married her father
JAMES MULBERRY in Londonderry, Ireland. People called her mother "ANNIE". While awaiting immigration to Canada, James Mulberry became ill (believed to be dysentery) and died in England while awaiting the ship. Mrs. Annie Mulberry accompanied her children on her own to Canada on the Allan Steamship Line in 1880, and arrived in Rapid City Manitoba. They chose Rapid City as relatives had already settled there. (niece Jane Thompson; daughter to John Mulberry - the brother of James Thomson Mulberry). Following several years of crop disasters, the family decided to move west to Spy Hill. In 1883 they filed on homesteads near the Cut Arm Valley. N.W. 14-18-31, and 22-18-31.

Mary lived on the homestead with her mother Thomasina Elizabeth Barnett Mulberry, and her brother David Mulberry until his marriage in 1904. Mary's mother passed away in 1903. After her brother David got married he built a house on his own homestead. Mary lived alone, except when her nephew James Auburton Mulberry moved in part-time. Eventually, James Auburton homesteaded in the Bavelaw District, at which time Mary went to live with 'Jimmy' and keep house for him. She never married. She took an active part in the social life of the district, was a member of their church circle and boarded the teachers for a time. She passed away in 1920. She will be remembered by many old-timers for her quick Irish wit, humor and hospitality.

CLARIFICATION: There are three MARY MULBERRY's.

1. Mary Mulberry (1861-1920) Sister of James T. Mulberry & David Mulberry.
2. Mary E. Murphy Mulberry (1878-1945)- Wife of James T. Mulberry
3. Mary Mae Rhoades Mulberry (1880-1932)- Wife of David Mulberry

In the photos to the right,
1. Mary is standing underneath a photo of her mother Thomasina'Annie' Elizabeth Barnett Mulberry, which is in an ornate frame on the wall. The Grandmother is wearing the same dress as in the group photo of the farm. The dark coloured dress is a two piece style, with a button up front and a ruffle at the waist. The wall Mary is standing beside has a wallpaper or oilcloth applied to it.

2. The farm photo shows her brother David Mulberry, Mary herself in the white dress, and her mother 'Annie' on the right in the same dark dress. They are standing in front of the old white farmhouse. Also, two pet chickens can be seen in the background!

3. A new iron cross that was fabricated for Mary's Grave site in 2012. This was compliments of the Spy Hill Cemetery Association. In the center of the cross is written MARY MULBERRY 1852 - 1920. This date was applied by the cemetery, so perhaps they have more accurate records of her birth year. The date in her Find-a-Grave Memorial is listed as 1861, according to the CANADA CENSUS. I will continue to research her actual birth year in Ireland.

Inscription

MARY MULBERRY
1852 - 1920

NOTE: This is a new Grave Marker, installed in 2013. The 1852 date does not match the family records, of 1861 as the year of birth. Most likely, the date was incorrectly inscribed.
Maureen Mulberry Davis ... great-great niece.
