Gertrude (Trudy) Camper, 86, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2007. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2007, at the Roanoke College Chapel. Trudy taught at Roanoke College over three decades, until her retirement in the mid-1980s. A Navy officer in World War II, Trudy lived in the Roanoke Valley since her marriage in 1945 to the late Albert B. (Allie) Camper. She was active in many civic and professional groups over the years and honored with awards ranging from Mother of the Year in 1965 to AAUW Pioneer in 2006. She is survived by her son David Camper and his wife Libby, of Roanoke; daughter Cathy Moses and her husband Bruce, of Greensboro, N.C.; daughter Anne Camper, of Falls Church, Va.; niece Mary Camper of Roanoke; and grandchildren Katie and Becky Camper and Kellee Barbour, all of Roanoke, Ben Moses of Greensboro, and Liana, Mike and Anne Camper-Barry, of Falls Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Habitat for Humanity in the Roanoke Valley or the World Wildlife Fund (US).
