Hubert Powl (Bert) Armbruster was born in 1875 at Ft Laramie in the Wyoming Territory to Hubert and Susan Armbruster. In 1878 his family moved into the Montana Territory settling along the Big Horn at Ft. Custer. In fall of 1883 the family moved to Miles City MT.

Bert learned to make his living in the saddle as a cowboy. In 1890 he worked as horse wrangler for the Lazy U Bar outfit which drove over a thousand head of cattle from Amarillo to the Lower Powder River Range. Five months on the trail. He worked for the Powder River Outfits for 10 years.

In 1900 Bert moved to the Big Dry in Dawson County to work for the Kramer Brothers. Bert put in a claim of 320 acres of river bottom land on the Missouri River in Valley and Dawson County in 1902. In January 1904 he married Jessie Darnall in Glendive, Montana. They had 4 surviving children; 3 daughters; Louise Mae, Agnes, and Jean; and a son, Hubert P Jr (Bud). They lived on the homestead until 1918 ... moving to Jordan Mt so the girls could attend school. Bert worked as a sheep shearer, teamster, and county road crew member to support his family in Garfield County during the 1920's.

Wife Jessie died in Jordan MT in 1933 after 2 years suffering from malignant cancer of the breast.

Bert hired on as a laborer on Ft Peck Dam in 1934. From 1939 to 1944 he worked on Shasta Dam as a carpenter near Redding, California. From 1945 to 1949 he travelled the West visiting family, Louise Mae in Alliance, NE; Agnes in Seattle WA; Jean in Rexford MT; Bud in Mapleton, OR.

Bert died of a heart attack in 1949 at Rexford, MT and was buried in Jordan MT. He was survived by daughters; Mae Jacobs, Agnes Sayler, and Jean Hollenback, son H.P (Bud) Armbruster, sister Lulu Dominy.
