David Denton Scoggin Was born in Hickory Valley, White County, Tennessee.
His father was John Scoggin 1784-1871 and mother Elizabeth White 1786-1860.

He married 1st unknown in Tenn. (have not found a marriage record). She was born betw 1820-1825 according to the 1840 USA census, Haw Creek Twp, Morgan Co. MO, page 171 B, line 21. I believe she was buried in Morgan County, MO.
They had 6 children:
1-Lucretia (Martha Linson) Scoggin, b.17 Sept. 1837 Tennesse, d. 23 April 1906 Hamilton Co. TX (first name changed from "Extended Family of John A Henderson" ancestry tree by James Henderson)
2-Thomas John Scoggin, b. 6 Aug. 1839 MO, d. 11 June 1889 TX, bur. Boggy Cem., Bosque Co. TX (1850,1860, 1880 US censuses; from desc. Virginia.)
3-Elizabeth (or Eliza A.) b. abt. 1842 MO (1850,1860 censuses)
4-Louisa b. abt. 1844 MO (1850 census)
5-Levina E. b. abt. 1843 or1846 MO (1850, 1860 censuses)

According to his obituary, 1st wife died Sept. 1848, Morgan Co. MO. NOTE: LDS rec. has a daughter Samatha, b. abt. 1847; she not in any censuses.

Married 2nd widow Mrs. Mary Jane (nee Reed) Gracy 6 Sept. 1849 in MO (not recorded in Cooper or Morgan Co. marriage records and could be registered by local church). Mary, widow of William Baker Gracy, mar. 20 May 1845, Cooper Co. MO; he died in Sept.; daughter Mary B. Gracy, born in 1846 in Morgan Co. MO--David raised her as his own; she was in her grdfather Gracy's Will, Probate records, Morgan Co. MO.

David and Mary Jane had 7 children:
