"The death of Edwin N. Smith, for many years a prominent resident of Fly Creek, occurred early Saturday morning at his home there following several years of declining health. He was 83 years of age. Mr. Smith was born in St. Johnsville on February 23, 1868, a son of Winslow and Margaret Smith. He married the former Miss Bertha A. Pettie at Fort Plain on December 12, 1888. Her death occurred in 1939. During his active years, he was engaged in farming and also was in the feed and fuel business with his son, J. Hervey Smith in Cooperstown and Fly Creek. He was a member of the Fly Creek Methodist church. He is survived by his son, who now lives in New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a daugher, Mrs. Josephine Payne of Richfield Springs; three grandchildren, Smith Palmer of Cooperstown, Edwin Smith of Pueblo, Colo., and Mrs. John Sullivan of Richfield Springs; two great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Smith of Needham, Mass.; and a sister, Mrs. Cora Cambridge of Phoeniz, Ariz ...
