William A. "Tally" Noble Jr.

BLUEFIELD — William A. "Tally" Noble Jr., 89, of Parkway, Bluefield, died early Thursday morning, August 30, 2007 at his residence.

Born January 12, 1918, in Princeton, he was the son of the late William A. Noble and Estella Dove Noble.

Mr. Noble was a graduate of Princeton High School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving three years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. For two and half years, he was a Fighter Pilot Instructor at Tuskegee, Alabama. Tally was responsible for training 74 student pilots during his time in Tuskegee. In mid 1944, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and made Squadron Commander. He continued instructing pilots to fly B-13's and AT-6 aircrafts. In the fall of 1944, Mr. Noble was promoted to First Lieutenant and was serving as the Group Commander, supervising squadrons at flying school. He had also served with the 82nd Division and the 82nd Airborne.

Tally was attending First United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va. He was a retired sales representative for Automotive Supply in Bluefield, with more than 40 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Noble in 1978, along with three sisters, Ila Kanode, Pansy Thomas, and Cleo Peterman, two brothers, Sam Noble and Clarence R. Noble.

Mr. Noble was a devoted husband, a caring father, a loving grandfather and a good brother. He loved to garden and was an avid fisherman.

Survivors: His loving wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Libby" Webb Noble; two daughters, Susan McGuire and husband Steve of Knoxville, Tenn., Kathy Noble of Bluefield; his six grandchildren that he loved so dearly, Kristen Helton, Lauren and Heather McGuire, Carly, Noah and Collin Fuller; one great grandchild, Emma Grace Helton; one sister, Helen Calfee of the Airport Road, Bluefield; a host of nieces and nephews.

On Sunday, September 2, 2007, at 4:00 p.m., we will celebrate a life well lived. A service of celebration will be held in the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory with Pastor Raymond Amos officiating.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, in the Garden of Everlasting Life, at the Brammer Entrance of Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road in Princeton.

Those wishing to attend the graveside service are requested to meet at the cemetery on Monday.

Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Family and friends may share messages of love and concerns with online condolences via www.memorialfd.com
