Fern Aiken Hudson, 98, of Benton, died at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Helia Healthcare in Benton.

Fern was born on September 23, 1913 near Macedonia, IL the daughter of Roscoe Quincy and Bertha (Green) Drake. She married Marion W. Aiken on March 30, 1935 and he preceded her in death on September 3, 1971. She later married G. Hobart Hudson on June 21, 1980 and he preceded her in death on December 20, 1998.

Fern was a 1931 graduate of Benton Township High School and Brown's Business School in Centralia. She worked for many years as a secretary, bookkeeper and sales clerk in local retail businesses including the Illinois Brokerage, Joan-Claire Dress Factory, Chase Welding, Webster Vending Company, and Ted's Ladies Apparel. She was a member of the Benton Business and Professional Women's Club. Fern was an eighty-three year member of the First Baptist Church in Benton serving as secretary, member of the Board of Christian Education, and as a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving relatives include a son, John D. Aiken and wife Mary Ellen, Benton; two granddaughters, Melody Smith and husband Ryan, Gurnee, IL, Carolyn Aiken, St. Louis, MO; two great-granddaughters, Mary Elizabeth Smith and Anna Katherine Smith, both of Gurnee, IL; several nieces and nephews including one close niece, Ardeth Bruno and husband Fred, West Frankfort; one close nephew, Nathan Lewis, Jerusalem, Israel; two close great-nieces, Jane Bruno, Keller, TX and Allison VanHavre and husband Ivan, Trophy Club, TX; and four step-grandchildren, Gregory Cram, Dallas, TX, Scott Cram, Shellsburg, IA, Sharolyn Dunham, Bloomington, IL, and Penny Jolly, Orlando, FL.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three sisters, Maudesta Collins, Jewell Lake, and Alberta Lewis, one close niece, Winifred Stephenson, and one step-daughter, Constance Cram.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Benton. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Bill Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton
