Ephraim DeLong, of No. 1117 Turner St., while in attendance at services in the Mennonite Church on Gordon Street, near 8th, yesterday morning, was seized with an attack of heart failure and died instantly. Mr. DeLong is a member of Seibert United Evangelical Church, corner 9th & Liberty Sts., but resolved to attend the services in the Mennonite Church yesterday when he learned that his old-time friend, Rev. William H. Gehman, for whom he had great respect, would preach the sermon. The preaching services followed the Sunday school session. Mr. DeLong arrived at the church during the intermission in the service and, after removing his hat and coat, took a seat in a pew. A few seconds later people who were seated near him saw him give a gasp and fall backward. When help reached his side, he was dead. Dr. Nevin Kistler was summoned and, upon his arrival, pronounced the aged man past all human help. the body was removed to his late hom by Undertaker Sterner. Mr. DeLong was in his usual health when leaving his home and had not complained of illness in several weeks. Almost 3-1/2 years ago he suffered a slight attack of heart failure. Deceased was in his 79th year. He was born in Maxatawny township, Berks county, and followed farming with his father for a number of years. Subsequently he moved to Schnecksville, this county, where he tilled a large farm for 39 years. He retired from active pursuits about 17 years ago when he moved to this city. Deceased was twice married. His first wife, whose maiden name was Adams, died 15 years ago. His second wife, who was Amanda Kennel, died 5 years ago. He left seven children, all by his first wife. They are: Daniel, Frankford, Ind; ex-Burgess Solomon DeLong, Slatington; Mrs. Jacob Seip, Mrs. Mary Baker, Deputy Clerk of Orphans court Oswell DeLong, Allentown; Alfred, Schnecksville; Joseph, Illinois. Sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Alvia, Lafayette, Ind.; Joel, Schnecksville; Mrs. Harrison Fegley, Lyons; Mrs. Susan Brandt, Mulberry, Ind.; Mrs. Helena Siegfried, Cambria, Ind. The deceased was an ardent adherent to the United Evalgelical denomination and in that congregation was with the foremost in advancing its work. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with services in Seibert Church, Rev. A. J. Brunner officiating. Interment will be made in West End Cemetery. Coroner Scheirer made an investigation but did not deem an inquest necessary.
