Ruby “Pop Pop” Doga
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Mr. Ruby “Pop Pop” Doga on Monday, June 5, 2006, in the Duhon Funeral Home chapel in Rayne.
Father Buddy Breaux was the celebrant with interment in St. Joseph Cemetery No. 2 in Rayne, under the direction of Duhon Funeral Home.
Mr. Doga was 79-years-old and Passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 8:55 p.m. in his home in Rayne after a lengthy illness.
The family requested visitation Sunday from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until time of service. A rosary was recited Sunday night at 7 p.m. in the Rayne chapel.
Ruby Doga was born September 18, 1926, in Bosco to Lorese Douget and Eva Breaux. During World War II, he served in the Navy with the 75th U.S. Naval Construction Battalion and the 61st U.S. Naval Construction Battalion, with service in the Asiatic Pacific American Theatre, which had a part in the Philippine Liberation. Released under honorable conditions in July of 1947, he came home to Rayne to marry Frances Mary Turquis on May 8, 1948.
He was retired from the Department of Transportation and Development.
In his younger years, Ruby was well-known in the rooster fighting circuit and was a former director of the Frog Capital Boxing Club. He and Frances spent many weekends camping in local campgrounds and visiting with friends.
He leaves a legacy of two children, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Left to mourn his passing and celebrate his life are his wife of 58 years, Frances T. Doga; his daughter, Norma, and her husband, Mike Baronne of Greenwell Springs; one son, Donnie, and his wife Tammye Doga of Rayne; granddaughter, Alyssa Simoneaux and husband, Kevin of Henry; grandson, Blaine Smith, and wife Regina of Crowley; granddaughter, Emily McGee, and husband Dustin of Ville Platte, grandson Scott Doga and granddaughter Katie Doga, both of Rayne; a brother, John V. Doguet of Rayne; three sisters, Gertie LaFleur, of Eunice, Jane Hebert of Parks and Berndadette Broussard of Carencro.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorese and Eva Doguet; and two brothers, Paul Jean-Batiste and Ivie Doguet.
He was a loved man and a loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and numerous friends.
After a debilitating stroke in 1996, he, regrettably, gave up camping but continued to entertain his many visitors right up to the the end. He was known to the younger generation and his grandchildren as “Pop Pop”.
