ATKINS — Geneta Apple, 82, of Russellville, left this world on Aug. 12, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Paris.

She was born April 23, 1932, in Omaha, Ark., daughter of the late Red and Mattie Chastain Rickman.

She was a retired employee of Tyson Foods where she served for more than 60 years — their longest-tenured employee. Her photograph was placed in the Tyson Museum in Springdale, and two apple trees planted in front of their Dardanelle complex in honor of her 25th and 50th years of service. She was quite the bingo player, and she loved going and visiting with her many friends. She had two very special women in her life who were like sisters to her, Ann Harwood and Sissy Via. They had many adventures and could tell endless stories about each other and their escapades. Geneta loved to “shop til you drop,” spending countless hours shopping with her grandkids and great-grandkids who were her pride and joy. She also loved spending time with them, taking them to McDonald’s and getting them pretty much anything they wanted.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jack Apple.

She is survived by two daughters, Kay Dotson and her friend Tommy Condley, and Brenda (Prater) and her husband Bill Jones; son, J. Paul Apple and wife Teresa, all of Russellville; grandson, Kendall Apple and wife Kathy; four granddaughters, Amanda and husband Danny Smith, Samantha Schluterman, Olivia Schluterman and Tessa Schluterman; eight great-grandchildren, Blake Smith, Cole Smith, Colin Apple, Noah Apple, Dejoun Schluterman, Izaiah Schluterman, Conner Price, and Taliah Criswell; several nieces and nephews; and her baby, Fred, the family pet and companion.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. on Thursday at Lemley Chapel with Rev. Rick Smith and Rev. Jim Findley officiating. Burial is in Pisgah Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today.

Pallbearers are Johnny Parker, Taylor Kendrick, Larry Kendrick, Gary Brewer, Jim Harwood and Greg Booth. Honorary pallbearers are the grandchildren.
