MAN FOUND SHOT NEAR STATE LINE
DANVILLE , May 12 . — AP )— Indiana and Illinois authorities tonight , weve trying to identify the body of a man who was found shot to death today in a roadside ditch six miles southeast of here , just across , the Indiana line . The man , clad only in underwear , lay face downward with the right side of his face shot away . Police said they believed the assassin had tried especially to destroy his teeth as a shotgun evidently had been pressed to his mouth and fired . Mel Hancock , a farmer , told authorities that about 9:30 oclock Monday night a small sedan stopped l00 yards north of his home and he heard two shots . The car then drove towards Danville at high speed . Hancock visited the scene of the shooting this morning and found the body . The body was taken to Clinton , Ind ., by Coroner C . M . Zink , of Vermillion county . Danville police said they believed the slain man was a member of a Danville gang- and officers were to be sent to Clinton to see if they could , identify the body .
