On Saturday, July 12th, Mrs. Delia McCole died at her home in Brant at the age of 80 years, from feebleness due to old age and a complication of diseases. Delia Otis was born in county Sligo, Ireland, and when she was an infant her parents moved to Leeds, England, where she grew to womanhood. In 1862 she came to the United States, coming direct to Oshkosh, where she resided until 1867, when she was married to the late Cornelius McCole and moved to Calumet County onto a farm on which she lived until the final summons came. She was in fairly good health until some four months ago, when her sons noticed that she began to fail and called in a physician. Everything possible was done to prolong her life, but to no avail and she departed his life to join her husband, who had preceded her in 1890. There was no woman better known or more highly respected in the town of Chilton than Mrs. McCole. She was bright and exceptionally intelligent, full of life and good spirits until the end and most companionable to neighbors and friends. She was a staunch member of St. Augustine's church for nearly half a century, doing her share and more in its upbuilding and maintenance.
The funeral was held on Tuesday from St. Augustine's church, Requiem Mass being celebrated by Rev. Fr. L. Thelen of St. Mary's church, with interment in St. Augustine's cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Cornelius and Gus, at home and Wm of California, and one daughter, Miss Anna at home and also by a stepson, James McCole of Tilden, Nebraska, and a stepdaughter, Mrs. D. M. Cannon, of Superior.
