Peter F. Carroll was born in Beaver Meadows, Pennsylvania, on November 2, 1856. At the age of 10, he moved with his parents to Scranton, PA, where he started to work as a slate picker in the coal mines. The spirit of the west called him and in September, 1881, he came to Creighton. After moving around a bit, in 1901, he moved to Boyd County and settled on a farm eight miles north-west of Lynch. He moved to Lynch in 1902.
Early in life he became interested in music and became a fine cornet player. While in his teens, he taught and conducted two bands in Scranton. He was always deeply interested in civic and national affairs.
Mr. Carroll was united in marriage to Queen Victoria Jackson in June 1887. Three children were born, two of whom preceded him in death. Frankie was killed on the battle fields of France during World War I. His wife died in 1902 while they were living on the farm. On June 17, 1903, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Gilligan, whom he had known in his boyhood days. Pete Carroll died of a heart attack, March 13, 1933.
Mrs. Pete Carroll (Jackson) was born in Oshkosh County, IN, November 15, 1867. On June 15, 1887, she was united in marriage to Pete Carroll at Rushville, NE. Three children were born to them. She died at her home at Lynch, April, 1902.
