Just prior to the 2nd W.W., Uncle "Bud" ran a bread route for a bakery (Zimmermanns) located in Hannibal, Mo. Drafted or enlisted? I don't know. He was a mechanic (Tech Sgt.) in the ground crew of a B-17 bomber. He was in 15th Air Force, 5th Combat Wing, 99th Bomber Group (346th, 347th, 348th and 416th Squadrons). He retired from government civil service a GS-13. He started out working in the Veteran's Administration, Navy Department worked at McDonnel-Douglas Aircraft, Thiokol Chemical and Wright-Patterson Air Base. He married Virginia Elizabeth Houck June 16, 1945 in St. Louis, Mo. before the war with Japan was brought to a close. They raised two sons: Carl Thomas and Charles Lee. He died of throat cancer. "Joe Camel" got him.
