Ernst Rossberg Chilton Times December 5, 1903

On Monday afternoon a telegram reached this city stating that Ernest Rossberg had died that day at his home in St. Paul, and that the remains would be brought here on Wednesday for interment. The casket was escorted to the Ebenezer Reformed church where the remains lay in state when the funeral was held, Rev. W. A Arpke officiating.
Ernst Rossberg was a native of Germany where he was born April 20, 1839. He came to America with his parents who located at Centerville, Manitowoc County in 1847. He remained at Centerville until he attained his majority and then departed for the Lake Superior copper country where he spent some years. He returned to Centerville where he engaged in the hotel business. In 1878 he came to Chilton and purchased the Chilton House and conducted that hostelry for about four years, disposing of the same to engage in the grain business with Anton Miesen, which occupation he followed until 1886 when he disposed of his interest in this city and moved with his family to St. Paul, Minn., where he conducted a saloon and hotel. In May last he disposed of his property and decided to take life easier. One month later his health began failing and he gradually grew worse until death came to relieve him.
During his residence in Chilton he took an active interest in the up building of our city and was recognized as one of our city and was recognized as one of our best foremost citizens. His reputation as a landlord was wide spread and the traveling public were always pleased to stop him for he always made them feel at home.
He leaves a widow, one son and two daughters to mourn the death of a good husband and father.
