Irene was known for her steadfast faith and gentle spirit. During the war, she helped build aircraft gas tanks for Firestone Corp. Later in life she owned and operated Irene's Beauty Shop in New Castle and Middletown. She was a member of Foursquare Gospel Church in New Castle where she belonged to the Ladies Prayer group and also taught Bible School. She was also a member of the New Castle women's Democratic Club. She bowled on a bowling league, enjoyed gardening, working in her flower beds, quilting, hand crafts, cooking and traveling with UAW retirees.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 43 years: Luther P. Ferrell;a daughter: Vickie Ferrell of Indianapolis;several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters;Oma Conn, Beulah Royce Culbertson, Ollie Armstrong, Nola Phelps, Willard Armstrong, Edward Armstrong, Tommy Armstrong, Jual Armstrong:and her first husband, Goble Perdue.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m.,Thursday,July 12,at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service in New Castle with Rev. Frank Wood officiating,. Burial will follow in South Mound Cemetery.
