SHREVEPORT,LA-Celebration of life services for Mr. Roosevelt Casson Sr., 90, will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. Rest B.C. 1664 Garden St., Pastor Robert Walton, officiating. Interment will follow at Northwest La. Veterans Cemetery, Keithville, La. Family hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Rest.
A beautiful life of love, commitment, and dedication came to an end early Saturday, morning, July 7, 2012.
Roosevelt Casson, Sr. was born on April 5, 1922 to the parentage of Emile and Gussie Casson in Natchitoches Parish, LA. He graduated from Natchitoches Parish Training School, now Central High School in Natchitoches, LA.
He joined the United States Navy and served in Okinawa Guam and Hawaii during World War II.
He furthered his education at Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, AL. During his matriculation at Tuskegee, he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraterity. He graduated with a B.A. Degree in Social Studies and English.
He taught in Caddo Parish Public School System for over 30 years before retiring. He received his M.A. Degree from Prairie View A. & M. College. During this time, he also worked at the Shreveport Country Club.
Mr. Casson was a devoted member of the St. Rest Baptist Church for many years. During that time, he served as a Deacon, President of the Trustees' Ministry, member of the Senior Choir, member of the Male Chorus, Sound System Technician, and various jobs until his health failed in 2011.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Roosevelt "Rudy" Casson, Jr. one sister, Mrs. Ora L. Parish, and one brother Ed Casson.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Goldie Scott Casson; one daughter, Mrs. Mary C. G. Davenport, one son, Anthony Emile (Cynthia) Casson; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Melinda M. Casson; six grandchildren, Edward, Tanika, Jeremiah, Matthew, Tyana, and Indyia; four sisters, Mrs. Helen C. Bush of Natchitoches, LA, Mrs. Lottie C. Evans, Mrs. Lucy B. Wolf, Mrs. Martha Hullaby, and one brother, Johnnie Fisher, all of Shreveport, LA; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and members of the St. Rest Baptist Church Family.
