Daughter of George Rex (Oct. 14, 1778-
Oct. 18, 1856) and Jane Black (Aug. 18,
1785-Dec. 27, 1850) who were married in
1806 in Greene County, PA.

On May 25, 1837 she married John Morgan
Messmore (Feb. 18, 1808-May 7, 1879).

They had six children:
(1) Elizabeth O.
(2) George Rex
(3) Albert G.
(4) William Henry
(5) John Morgan
(6) Sarah Jane "Jennie"
(refer to husband's memorial for
added details)

Family legend has it that Sarah's paternal
grandfather, allegedly born in London,
England, was the son of the Prince of'
Wales (later King George III) and his
morganatic wife, Hannah Lightfoot. This
story has been part of family legend for years.
Historians say this was impossible since
the Prince of Wales was born in 1738 and
George was born ca1750 which would mean
that the Prince was barely a teen-ager when
George Rex was born.
The fact that REX means king, adds an
interesting twist to the story!
Hannah seems to have totally disappeared by
the time the Prince becomes king in 1760
and the necessity of finding a 'royal' wife
to continue the royal lineage.

Descendants of George Rex say Hannah
and her young son were sent in secrecy to
America by the to-be King in order to avoid
any Royal Court embarrassment and that
George was given a lifetime pension by His
Majesty.
Who knows for sure? Fact or fiction?
We'll likely never know unless one goes
digging into the royal archives in England.
That is likely impossible!
