Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He entered the service at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served as a Sergeant in the Union Army. He was awarded the CMOH as a Corporal in Company H, 188th Pennsylvania Infantry for action on September 29, 1864 at Fort Harrison, Virginia. His medal was issued on April 6, 1865. His citation reads "Planted first national colors on the fortifications."
