Nobility. She was born into nobility as the fifth daughter of Jean I de Bourgogne and Marguerite de Baviere. For political reasons between England and France, she married John of Lancaster, Duke of Bedfort on May 13, 1423. Her dowry consisted of a huge amount of money as well as jewels. Although their arranged royal marriage was happy, they had a childless marriage. She was his first wife. She was present at the trial of Joan of Arc and gave the statement that Joan was a virgin at her trial. She provided her with woman's clothing, but left before the execution, yet other sources state she stayed. She died during an epidemic in Paris while caring for the sick. Her body was first buried at the Celestines and her heart at the Convent de Augustins. In 1816 her recumbent effigy was brought to Versailles and is today housed at the Louvre. During an archeological dig at Couvent des Celentins in 1847, her remains were found and were brought to Dijon where they were buried inside her grandfather, Philip II of Bourgogne's tomb.
