2nd child and son of Havilah and Rachel (Calhoun) Beardsley. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington and studied medicine in Cincinnati, but never practiced. He married Julia DeCamp in St. Joseph County IN on 12 October 1860. There was one child to this union, Carl R. (born 1872). In addition, they adopted a daughter named Grace. He worked all of his life in Elkhart as an engineer and public servant. He was instrumental in developing Grace Lawn Cemetery in Elkhart IN, which is named after his adopted daughter. He served as an Elkhart City Trustee and Civil Engineer, and also served two terms in the Indiana State Senate.
