Charles N. Rust, 76, a lifelong resident of Simsbury, currently of Barkhamsted passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday (April 19, 2001) in DeLeon Springs, FL.

Born August 9, 1924 in Granby he was the son of the late Charles R. Rust and Catherine (Forbes) Rust. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II from 1942-1945. In 1954, he joined the Connecticut State Police. He was assigned to the Governor's office from 1959-1971 working with both Governor's Ribicoff and Dempsey.

Upon leaving the Governor's office in 1971, he started Troop W at Bradley Field and retired as Commander of the Canaan Barracks in 1978. He was a member of the CT State Police Association and the Simsbury Coon Club.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Stella (Clark); daughters, Wendy Gutowski and husband Robert, Marcia LeBlanc and husband William; grandsons, Jeffrey and Kevin LeBlanc; sister, Ruth Genlot; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Wed, April 25, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, April 26, 11 a.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, Simsbury, with burial in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, P.O. Box 5022, Wallingford, CT 06492-7522.
