Raymond L. Purpur, 85, of Grand Forks, ND passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012 in 4000 Valley Square, Woodside Village in Grand Forks.

Raymond Leonard Purpur was born July 5, 1927 in Grand Forks, ND the son of Adolph and Annie (Hausauer) Purpur and was baptized in the Evangelical Church. He attended Winship Elementary School in Grand Forks and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1948. He worked as an independent carpenter in Grand Forks for several businesses including Sandstrom and Olsen Carpentry. He loved to play hockey and played for the Amerks with Cliff Purpur and Ken Purpur. Due to diabetes, He had surgery on the heal of his foot and was forced to give up skating and hockey. However, he continued to be involved with hockey by keeping score during games and working the penalty box. His sister, Orell was a wonderful caregiver and cared for him for 13 years. She took him to Filer, ID and then they returned to Grand Forks. Whenever there was a small carpentry job, a house or garage to be built, Ray was always there to help. He made sure the work was performed perfectly. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by, a sister, Delores (Emil) Panzer, Grand Forks, ND; sister-in-law, Darlyne Purpur, Rapid City, SD; many nephew, nieces, cousins, friends and all who loved and cared for him.

He was preceded in death by, his parents; brothers, Cliff Purpur, Al Purpur, Ken Purpur; sisters, Lorraine Dokken , Orell Baker; sisters-in-law, Mary Purpur, Viola Purpur; brothers-in-law, Ernie Dokken and Ray Baker.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the charity of your choice or your church.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2012 in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel, Grand Forks, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to the funeral service in the funeral chapel on Monday.

Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery North, Grand Forks, ND.
