Edward James (E. J.) Pullium, 81, of Sylva died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Medwest Harris Hospital. He was the son of the late George Washington and Elda Phillips Pullium.

He served in the Air Force during the Korea Conflict and was a retired employee of Department of Transportation. He helped construct homes for Habitat for Humanity in Jackson County and ramps for the Department of Aging.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jean Sutton Pullium, in March of this year [2012].

Surviving are his son, Edward Anthony Pullium and wife, Cheryl of Franklin, NC; three sisters, Gladys Wymore of  Glendale, CA, Elizabeth Gates of Catersville, GA, Mary Ann Wiggins of Adairsville, GA; four brothers, George Pullium, Jr. of Knightsville, NC, Jack Pullium of Acworth, GA, Boyd Pullium, Tom Pullium of Murphy, NC; four grandchildren, Sara Pullium, Matthew, Ashley and Ryan Crawford.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Sylva First Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. John Bunn and Reverend Jeff Mathis officiating. Military rites will be provided by William E. Dillard American Legion Post 104. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, at the Melton Funeral Home.
