GROVER C. GAUTHIER (d. 1955)

Grover C. (Kelly) Gauthier, 62, of `1018—17th St., Two Rivers, one of the city’s prominent figures in the early baseball days, serving both as a player and later as manager of teams, died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home at 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Mr. Gauthier had just completed an early morning household chore, and was about to go to his work at the E. Eggers Plywood and Veneer Company when he was stricken.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Deja & Martin Funeral Chapel, Two Rivers, and at 9 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. C. V. Hugo officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Two Rivers.

Born at Sheboygan on June 10, 1892, a son of the late Edward and Mathilda Barrette Gauthier. When he was two years old the family brought him to Two Rivers where he had resided since. He attended St. Luke Parochial School at Two Rivers and as a youth was a member of the old South Side baseball team. Always interested in sports after his baseball playing days, he managed a number of teams in Two Rivers, among which were the Gates Grocers which he directed to an amateur league championship. In World War I he served overseas with the United States Army. For a number of years he had been employed at the Eggers firm at Two Rivers.

Surviving are his wife, the former Jennie Moreau, whom he married at Casco, Kewaunee County, in 1919; a daughter, Mrs. Sig Sievert of Two Rivers; a son, Victor Gauthier of Two Rivers; three sisters, Mrs. George Ney and Mrs. Joseph Ney of Two River and Mrs. Richard Hydenrich of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, David Gauthier of Two Rivers and nine grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.
