Major Alexander Lackie Archibald, was the son of Samuel George William Archibald and Susannah Fulton. He was named after his grandfather, Alexander Lackie Archibald.

He was married to Nancy Taylor on 27th of September 1859 and they had three daughters:

A.L. ARCHIBALD DIED IN HALIFAX, FEB. 17
The death of Mr. Alexander L. Archibald, Truro, took place last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. S.W. Fraser, 297 North Street, Halifax. The deceased was 77 years of age.
For eighteen years, Mr. Archibald was Truro's town engineer, which office he filled with the utmost faithfulness. Over seventeen years ago while at his post of duty, he was stricken with paralysis and has been an invalid ever since.
He was the eldest son of the late S.G.W. Archibald.
In his immediate family he leaves a wife and three daughters; Mrs. S.W. Fraser, Halifax; Miss Eugenie in McGill College Library, Montreal; and Miss Josephine at home. He is also survived by a brother, William, in British Columbia, and a sister, Miss Jane Archibald, Pleasant St., Truro.
The funeral will be held from his late residence, Walker Street at half past two, on Thursday, Rev. A.J. McDonald officiating.
